Benin United Forum(BUF) has sent a reminder note to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Lilian Imuentiyan Salami as regards choice of her successor.
In the note signed by Iyamu Osaro Culture- President and Osayuki-Osa Benson, Secretary General, BUF stated: “As we await the outcome of the Selection Committee statutorily set up by your leadership in view to picking the most qualified Professors amongst those that applied for the position of Vice-Chancellor, it is sacrosanct for us to remind you not to jettison our 2009 struggle which paved the way for your emergence as Vice-Chancellor of University of Benin and other two Vice-Chancellors of Benin extraction.”
Going further, the BUF stressed: “Consequent upon the above, we therefore call on you to respect the wishes of the sovereignty of Benin Kingdom and entire Benin people.”
It would be recalled that a week ago the group had accused Professor Salami of acting “anti-Benin plot” by working towards imposing a candidate of Yoruba extraction to succeed her.
Professor Salami having spent the mandatory five years in office will be exiting in December even as the process to pick her successor has commenced in earnest.
