Botched coronation of Sultan of Shuwa Arab in Edo: Benin group warns on future reoccurrence

The Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide has viewed with disdain the incessant and ugly trends confronting the Edo State Traditional Institution by some strangers in the State.

The Traditional Institution is being threatened with the ugly and dangerous trend of Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas and Fulanis coming up with their obnoxious traditional titles in Edo State.

You cannot come from the East or the North to claim traditional title in another traditional/ethnic region or ancestral home of other tribes which cannot be condoned in your own part of the country simply because you have lived in the part of the country for years, and that does not make you owner of those ancestral lands or regions.

“If you are an Eze, be that Eze in your state. If you are a Baale, be that Baale in your state. If you are a Seriki, be that Seriki in your state and if you are a Chief, be that Chief in your state.”

The Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) Worldwide is using this medium to call on the Edo State Government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, to as a matter of urgency propose a bill to be passed into law and gazzetted against this ugly trend in the traditional institution of Edo State.

We are also calling on the Edo State Traditional Institution to carefully look into this dangerous situation to avoid future chaos in the tradition and cultural history of the Edo State people.

Meanwhile, the Benin Solidarity Movement BSM Worldwide also recently observed that the State Governor of Katsina where the President of Nigeria hails from, told the people of the state to defend themselves by having their own AK47 guns without passing same into law of the state. This goes to show the lawlessness and the level of insecurity in that state in particular and the country generally.

For a stitch in time, saves nine.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria and long live Edo State.
