In a twist of event at the celebration of this year’s Auchi Day in Auchi Sacred Kingdom, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s anointed candidate, Asue Ighodalo and his followers roared at the royal monarch who was delivering his speech at the time Ighodalo arrived the Otaru’s Palace.
Other royal fathers who were also seated at the time could only hide their obvious displeasure in their royal regalia as they staged a walk-out on Asue Ighodalo’s unruly attitude.
What made the incident particularly surprising was that it occurred in a place many consider as the sacred Palace of Auchi Kingdom.
Asue Ighodalo’s action is considered a sacrilege, due to the god-like status of monarchs who were already seated at the time of his arrival: it is considered a betrayal of the gods of the sacred kingdom of Auchi and many, including political figures, like the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu; Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomohle, Minister of NDDC, Hon. Abubakar Momoh and the subjects who are calling ‘for his head.’
Some of the youths of Auchi who spoke said: “We must not take it lightly and the truth is that by doing what he and his disloyal followers did he has spat on our sacred kingdom. His unruly behaviour is a desecration of our values and a grave insult to the Auchi Sacred Kingdom and our traditional institutions.
“Defenders and sympathizers of our deteriorating traditional institutions are dressing the homeless technocrat in a tirade of insults and criticisms at the venue of the Auchi Day’s celebration as the royal monarch staged a walk-out.
“This is not the first time the traditional institution has been subjected to ridicule and disrespect by the likes of Asue Ighodalo, and likely not the last. Since the integration of traditional rulers into the contemporary political system, there have been countless incidents of tension between traditional rulers and politicians who think they possessed political power.”
