Erstwhile promoter of Asue Ighodalo for governor, Mr. John Mayaki, has advised the PDP candidate to immediately consider vying for the senatorial ticket of his party before it becomes too late.

Mayaki said it was better the PDP candidate jostle to contest for the Edo Central Senatorial District ticket in the proposed bye-election to replace Senator Monday Okpebholo’s now vacant seat, than plotting to blackmail the judiciary in his desperate attempt to govern the state.

According to Mayaki, “I expect the PDP leaders to advise their candidate and even give him the right of first refusal for the senatorial ticket in Edo Central Senatorial district bye-election,” adding that, “politics has a bottom-up structure which Asue Ighodalo must understand and not attempting to jump the gun.”

Mayaki said Edo State already has a working governor, urging the PDP candidate to acknowledge the mandate of the people and support the progress already being delivered.

“Okpebholo is focused on governance and significant strides in power, infrastructure, and economic development are being made already by a leader who is not just settling into office but actively delivering the goods. Governance is about continuity and results,” Mayaki stated.

“Senator Okpebholo has hit the ground running, with projects that benefit the state. Rather than distract the government with prolonged litigation, the opposition should put Edo first by supporting the administration’s efforts.”

Mayaki also criticized what he called the “courtroom politics” of the opposition, asserting that it only serves to delay the state’s progress.

His words, “Edo people have chosen their leader. The courts should not be used as a means to overturn the will of the people.”
