The All Progressives Congress (APC) has renewed its call for the arrest and prosecution of Blessing Agbebaku, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, accusing him of involvement in electoral violence.

Initially the party raised alarms on August 20, 2024, alleging that Agbebaku was plotting to disrupt the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state on Saturday, September 21. The party alleged that the security agencies have failed to act.

The APC further alleged that on August 31, 2024, Agbebaku masterminded a violent attack against their members. The incident reportedly involved the wife of the APC Ward 2 chairman and the family of David Iruedo, the party’s Ward 2 Organising Secretary.

The attackers said to be acting on Agbebaku’s orders, assaulted Mrs. Collins Amoni, smashed a seven-month-old baby against a wall, stripped Iruedo’s wife naked, and vandalized his bar.

In a statement signed by Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the APC Chairman in Edo State, the party alleged that the individuals are associates of Agbebaku. The party therefore demanded the immediate arrest of Aigbebaku and all those involved in the attack, cautioning that while they advocate for peaceful elections, their members may be forced to defend themselves if the authorities do not intervene.
