The much postponed world lightweight title fight between Nigeria’s Alex Ekhorowa(aka Alex Rudd) and his Egyptian opponent, Ahmed Mustafa, got a boost from two prominent sons of Edo State namely the former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion and the Okhaegele (youth leader) of Obazagbon Community in Oredo Local Goverment Area.

First to signify his interest in the fight was the former governor who made his ultramodern gym located in the heart of Benin City available free of charge for the pugilist’s use as he prepares for the fight with a promise to do more in due course.

In a chat with journalists, Joshua said that his interest in the title fight is fired by the fact that his kinsman, Alex Ekhorowa, is striving to bring glory to Edo State and indeed Nigeria via the boxing arena.

He asserted that the title fight coming at this time is a sure sign that Governor Obaseki is a man who believes in building people most especially the youths.

“This kind of sporting activity has not happened in Edo State for quite some time now and it is a plus to the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki. It is on this ground that I am throwing my weight fully in the fight and ensuring that my brother, Alex Ekhorowa, makes us proud.

“Considering that the fight would attract different people from all parts of the country and even beyond it is a thing of joy and we should endeavour to join in the effort by Alex to bring glory to Edo State.

“Be assured that whatever is the support that will be needed I will always be available. Not only that I will mobilise my people to join in supporting Alex as he strive to fly our flag high,” Joshua Edo stated.

It would be recalled that the high profile fight which already has the endorsement of the Global Boxing Federation(GBF) and Nigeria’s Boxing Board of Control(NBB of C) has suffered series of postponement due to lack of sponsorship in the last couple of years.

Meanwhile, the fight has been tentatively fixed to be held on Saturday, May 29th, 2021, in Benin City.
