Osasere Ekhator Ohonba, a security aide of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, attached to the State Security Network, has given kudos to his principal for the steps that have been taken to ensure that insecurity in the state is tackled headlong.
While conceeding to the fact that it is not ideal to disclose the modus operandi of security operations, Osasere, who is the head of the Safe Edo Land Security Network, stated that the proactive steps that Governor Obaseki has taken has been strategic in ensuring that crime and criminality in the state become a thing of the past.
“I must give kudos to Governor Obaseki who has through his actions ensured that crime is a thing of the past in the state. Not only that he has ensured that nothing is left to chance in keeping to his promise to ensure citizens do their legitimate businesses under a secure environment.
“Also worthy of appreciation is the cooperation that we are getting from the security agencies in the course of carrying out our assignment. From the police down to the army the synergy has been beautiful.
“For example, the Commanding Officer (CO) in Ekenwa Barracks, Benin, has been very supportive. So also the State Commissioner of Police(CP). All these have played a role in ensuring that as we patrol the waterways across the state and as far as some parts of the neighbouring states we achieve success.
“Patrolling the different localities to ensure that pipeline vandalism, kidnapping, cultism etc are curbed and the volume of oil production is on a high level, we are not unaware of the goodwill of Tompolo whose security team we sometimes join to boost the fight against crime. In days to come we look forward to having a brainstorming session with him on the way forward.
“Others whose positive impact cannot be forgotten in a hurry include the different DPOs, the OC anti-kidnapping unit of the State Police Command, OC Crack Team and the Marine Police.”
On the secret of the success achieved in the war against crime, Osasere disclosed, “we were born and bred in these communities. We know the terrain much better than the criminals. So at all times when we get any distress call we swarm on the locality, seal up all likely escape routes and face the suspects headlong.”
