The people of Okoroma, a community situated in Okpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, have drawn the battle line with the Governor Godwin Obaseki as it regards his recent campaign to the locality to seek for their support for his preferred candidates in the state House of Assembly polls slated for Saturday, March 18th.
In a chat with reporters on a fact finding tour of the town, the locals said that they were caught unawares and surprised to see the governor came to curry their support for his endorsed candidates mostly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Governor Obaseki is a funny character. He is pleading with us to come out enmasse on the day of the election (Saturday, March 11) and vote for his party (PDP) candidates. Yes, he is free to campaign for his party in all parts of Edo State but that theory does not hold in our community, Okoroma.
“This is a community that he stormed with his array of bulldozers to pull down our magnificent structures in the name of keeping to the town building laws of the state. Nothing we told him then could make him calm and rescind his decision on humanitarian grounds. Now he is telling us that the action was taken wrongly. That the government was ill advised.
“Most of us nearly lost our lives or go mad from the trauma we experienced as a result of the huge losses we had. All these happened even when people from all over the world were pleading vehemently on our behalf.”
Going further, a community source stated: “If we had died as a result of the shock we experienced from that destruction of our properties will Obaseki come and ask us to vote for PDP or any party for that matter?
“Obaseki should just let us be. We will never vote for any candidate that he endorsed for this forthcoming election. He should know that in clear terms.”
