Stakeholders urge politicians to operate peoples’ oriented policies

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Edo State Chapter, has called on political actors to make economic improvement as a cardinal part of their campaigns and administrations.

Addressing participants at a one-day lecture held at the NUJ Press Centre, Benin City, the National Trustee of the NUJ, Abimbola Oyetunde urged journalists to be guided by the ethics of the profession.

“We should use our pen which is mightier than the sword to unite our  country, Nigeria. We should not use our pen to disintegrate because whatever we write or report can make or mar a nation. We must not announce any result INEC has not approved.”

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Edo State, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, said the media as the fourth estate of the realm will ensure a free, fair, credible and unbiased reports before, during and after the election.

On his part, a veteran journalist and resource person, Mr. Tony Abolo, urged the government to engage in reforms designed to boost economic productivity. According to Abolo, “the 2023 election is meant for us to decide, if we want political politicians or economic deciders who are on top at the political level of control.”

In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Adesuwa Ehimuan, said the essence of the seminar was to find solutions to the deep economic distress and internal cohesion of the nation. The workshop had as its theme: ‘2023 Election: The Synergy of Politics, Governance and Economy.’
