The 2021 governorship election in Anambra State has brought to the fore, different issues particularly as they affect the Esan nation.

The characters, personalities, economic and academic profiles of the aspirants in the Anambra gubernatorial race are indications that the Esan nation is currently operating on a rapidly vanishing political and economic glory particularly on the home front.

One is compelled to wonder whether politics has actually yielded result or added values to the life and glory of the average Esan man over the years.

In a matter of 26 months from now, Edolites will file out to vote the next governor of the state. As Esan continue to clamour for consideration ahead of 2024, one is worried at the degree of depreciation of the Esan political class and the mental disorder ravaging Esan nation today ahead of the polls.

In 2007, aside Prof(Senator)
Oserheimen Osunbor whose ambition was supported by the then incumbent governor Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion but was still tuated by the same Esan people.

So what has become of the supposed elephant or lion, the king of jungle? Is the spirit of ‘Kokoko’ still hovering around the political landscape in Edo central?

Esan can no longer stand to take what belongs to them? The question therefore is, have we as a nation fared well in our democracy? Where did we get it all wrong? Who did this evil to us?

The once giant of Edo State is now begging for a governorship ticket to a ridiculous level. Esan elders, women and youths are now on their knees, begging to be considered for the honour of returning to government house.

Even if we have to appeal to the other districts for consideration, must we rub ashes on our bodies in the name of working for Esan?

What I mean, where did we get it so wrong that we have been so decapitated politically and are now floundering hopelessly like a castrated full grown man before a naked woman?

Who did this to us? I am appalled at the state of Esan political progress in the comity of ethnic nationalities today.

Many of those made by Chief Tony Anenih have failed to cultivate others and so have overtime, been cowed by political vicissitudes, as they continue to struggle to keep their faces from the tear gas of political retrogression.

The ladder they abandoned has been so worn out that they can no longer stand the heat of political fireworks to provide shoulders for those leaders.

We have lost the pears of political reckoning like the late Chief Anthony Eromosele Enahoro, Prof Ambrose Alli, Chief Tony Anenih, Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu and others.

I can only appeal to the Afemai, Benins, Esan political leaders and people to cooperate with political parties to see whether something can still be salvaged from the raging storm because we are all Edolites.. Oba ghato kpere ise’.

This matter must be handled with tact, otherwise it can backfire to haunt Esan quest for the keys to government house in 2024. In the wake of political sustainability, the time has come for Esan to take giant steps to getting back to where it belongs politically.

Failure is never failure until one stops trying. The calmness of the Lion in the jungle can only give room for a temporal display of supremacy by the antelope.

The political nitwits in Esan must re- strategise, galvanise and speak in one language to attract again, the fragrance of governance.

Proven and tested technocrats must be allowed to chart the course to again put Esan in the map. I trust our highly experienced political leaders, Edo North brothers, Edo South brothers and ours traditional rulers when it comes to uncommon strategies and pleasant political surprises.

There is no need for us to take unnecessary risk in this dispensation. The Holy Bible says “…even the lawful captives shall be set free” when God steps in.

I therefore, call on political actors in Edo Central- APC and PDP alike to throw their hats in the ring for our time has come 2024. We must remain united and be our brothers keeper.

Esan can and will rise again.

The sky is blue…

The time is now…

Esan has risen…
