Foremost Benin socio-cultural group, Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) worldwide has called on Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to rejig the State Vigilante team because it “has become a breeding ground for intimidation, harassment and oppression of rival secret cult confraternity groups in the State.

“Instead of them fighting crime and criminalities like the frequent kidnapping and killing of innocent citizens along our highways, they are busy using the vigilante outfit to blackmail themselves thereby allowing the acclaimed murderous Fulani Herdsmen in our forests and lands to have a free day in perpetrating their crimes against the people of Edo State.

“We are of the opinion that these youngmen recruited into the vigilante groups should be given proper re-orientation and enlightenment on the primary purpose of coming together in one accord and focus in fighting their common enemies (Murderous Fulani Herdsmen) and dangerous criminals out there instead of the gang hunting cum blackmail of their fellow brothers and sisters.

“We want to seize this opportunity to appeal to Governor Godwin Obaseki to double efforts and look drastically into the above mentioned security concerns before it escalates into a more dangerous security situation in the State.”

Another issue that is bothering the BSM is the movement of delivery motorcycle riders at night within the Benin metropolis.

“The first question is, what are they delivering at that odd hour of the day? Secondly, who is taking cognisance of their activities and thus putting a check on them?” BSM queried in a statement issued by its President, Elder Curtis Eghosa Ugbo and made available to Popular News.
