Today, with profound joy and reverence, the Benin Writers’ Society (BWS) celebrates our President and Founder, Barrister Douglas Ogbankwa Esq. a distinguished lawyer, visionary leader, writer, and nation-builder whose life continues to leave indelible footprints on the sands of justice and literature.

Called to the Nigerian Bar in May 2007, Barrister Ogbankwa has built a legal career anchored on excellence, courage, and integrity. Over the years, he has distinguished himself not only as a legal practitioner but also as a thought leader and public intellectual. His service within professional bodies, his advocacy for judicial independence, and his contributions to legal discourse reflect a man deeply committed to strengthening institutions and advancing the rule of law.

As a lawyer, he embodies the timeless words of Martin Luther King Jr.: “The time is always right to do what is right.”

This conviction echoes in his professional journey. steady, principled, and impactful. Yet beyond the courtroom, Barrister Ogbankwa is a builder of minds. As Founder and President of the Benin Writers’ Society, he established more than an association, he birthed a movement. A sanctuary for creativity. A platform where voices are nurtured, sharpened, and amplified. Through his leadership, writers have found confidence, community, and clarity of purpose.

His life resonates with the wisdom of Chinua Achebe, who wrote: “A man who calls his kinsmen to a feast does not do so to save them from starving.”

In founding this Society, Barrister Ogbankwa did not merely gather writers, he called them to growth, to excellence, to shared vision.

His legacy is one of service to law, to literature, to leadership. He understands that true influence is substance. Not position alone, but purpose lived consistently.

As John C. Maxwell reminds us: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

Barrister Ogbankwa has known the way of discipline. He has walked the way of diligence. And he continues to show the way of vision.

Today, we do not only recount his achievements, we celebrate the character behind them. resilience in adversity, clarity in complexity, humility in accomplishment. And as we honor him, we lift abundant prayers

Barrister Douglas Ogbankwa, may God increase you in wisdom beyond human measure. May your mind remain sharp, your judgment sound, and your counsel sought after. May divine favor distinguish you in every professional and personal endeavor. May your name continue to command respect and open doors of uncommon opportunity. May your health flourish like a well-watered garden. May strength be renewed in you daily. May peace settle in your home and joy echo within your walls.
May your family be preserved, protected, and prospered.
May the works of your hands multiply. May every initiative you establish grow roots deep and branches wide. May those you mentor surpass you in greatness, for that is the crown of true leadership.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

May the trails you have blazed become highways for generations to follow. We pray that no challenge overwhelms you. No opposition silences you. No obstacle halts your progress.

Instead, may grace speak for you. May mercy uphold you. May divine strategy guide you. As Helen Keller so beautifully said: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

Through your vision, we have done much and we shall do even more.
Barrister Douglas Ogbankwa, your legacy is not confined to titles or accolades. It lives in the confidence of emerging writers, in strengthened institutions, in minds enlightened through your advocacy, and in the quiet inspiration you offer by example.

On this birthday, may heaven smile upon you. May your years be long and fruitful. May your impact deepen.
May your light never dim.•
Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
May this new chapter be your most powerful, peaceful, and prosperous yet

Princess Diana Eweka

Vice President, Benin Writers Society for Events and External Affairs.
