A migrants, Refugees, and Countering Trafficking in Persons (MRCTIP) unit has been set-up by the Catholic Secretariate of Nigeria following the advocacy efforts of the Action Against Trafficking in Persons (AaTIP) cluster, supported by the Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) project.

This group of organizations facilitated collaboration among stakeholders leading to a stronger partnership between the Catholic Church and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in addressing the pressing issues of migration, trafficking, and counter-trafficking in persons reported through the new unit.

With functional units across all dioceses in Nigeria, the Catholic Church is poised to increase access to safe spaces for reporting, managing and referring cases of trafficking.

This initiative will also ensure a more coordinated and impactful response to these critical issues and help trafficking survivors regain their dignity and reintegrate into their communities.

SCALE is a five-year project (2020-2025) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Palladium. The project strengthens the financial, management, and advocacy capacity of CSOs in Nigeria to create a more accountable, transparent, peaceful, and democratic Nigeria with more effective, and efficient public service delivery.
