Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, has said renovation work at the legislators’ quarters on Ihama Road, GRA, Benin City, is ongoing, while vehicles for lawmakers have started arriving in batches.

The Speaker made this known at the legislative quarters during a press briefing on Monday.

According to him, the first and second trenches of payments have been made to the contractors working on the buildings, stressing that, before he assumed office, the first trench of payment for the renovation of the legislative quarters was released to four contractors for speedy completion of the ongoing renovation work. He assured that by the end of November, members would be able to move in.

Mr. Speaker said that, contrary to rumours making the rounds, the state government has purchased over 14 vehicles while others are on the way for the lawmakers.

He assured that the 8th Assembly places the welfare of Edo people as top priority, emphasizing that it is not about the personal interest of the lawmakers.

The Speaker maintained that the 8th Assembly is in good terms with the executive arm of the State, as both arms are partners in the progress and development of Edo State.

He added that the House constituted a seven-man committee consisting of lawmakers from all three political parties in the house to inspect projects executed by the present administration.

At the legislators’ quarters on Ihama Road, renovation work was ongoing with men and materials on site.

According to the project supervisor, Mr Benedict Irumekhai, the first set of completed houses will be handed over in two weeks, while others will be completed by the end of November.

Meanwhile, the first batch of official vehicles for the lawmakers have arrived, while others are being expected.
