Human rights activist, Chief (Dr.) Patrick Osagie Eholor(aka Ultimate Equals), has called on the Edo State Governor, Gov. Godwin Obaseki to Swear in eight judges designate of the Edo State High Court, whose appointments have been cleared by the National Judicial Council (NJC) since the 15th of June, 2023.

The activist stated that judges, who are made to do justice, should not themselves face injustice in their appointment processes. The judges have not been sworn in since on the 15th of June, 2023, when their appointments were announced.

For about 135 days now, they have not collected any salaries or allowances and they are mostly at home sleeping, while the High Courts in Edo State are overburdened by cases, as the sitting judges are very few.

The Judges Designate are: Ovenseri Otamere, Obayuwana Osarenren Mathias, Edoghogho Eboigbe, Ojo Maureen Osa, Bright Eraze Oniha,
Ehinon Anthony Okoh,
Godwin Jeff Okundamiya, Osayande Ikwuemosi Awawu.

Eholor stated that the Edo State Governor should know he is not an emperor, who runs the state like a personal fiefdom. He called on Leaders of Thoughts in Edo State to rise up against the dictatorship of the Governor on this issue.

He also stated that he is mulling going to Court to get the National Assembly to remove governors from the appointment processes of judges in Nigeria as same is being abused by the governors.
