June 12: Not ideal as Democracy Day, says senate hopeful

Kenneth Okonkwo is still ‘living in bondage’ – says Akwa Ibom Governor

Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, has promised Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon (The Riceman) that he has his prayers and blessings as he sets out to become Governor of Edo State in 2024.

The monarch made the promise when the Labour Party (LP) governorship hopeful accompanied by some of his party’s topshots and his associates including Amen, a daughter of Brigadier Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, the acclaimed best governor in the history of the then Bendel State, paid a visit to the Benin Palace on Tuesday afternoon.

Barrister Imansuangbon informed the monarch that his decision to seek for the blessing of the monarch is informed by the fact that the Omo N’Oba is his father “and there is no how I can embark on my journey to the Government House without having the blessings of my father.”

According to Barrister Imansuangbon his desire to govern Edo State is “to bring purpose and pattern to good governance” assuring that in whatever he does as governor he will seek the mandate of the Omo N’Oba as he does not subscribe to antagonising the royal throne of the biggest kingdom in the world (the Benin Kingdom).

He assured the Oba that his administration in the state will be just and firm in acting its policies and will allow for contributions from the traditional institutions on the best ways to move the state forward.

The Omo N’Oba, while responding to Barrister Imansuangbon, in a wisecrack enquired about when he will commence his annual rice sharing which he does as a palliative. He said that he will be given prayers such that he will not be in harm’s way as he goes ahead canvassing for support while he gets favour anywhere he steps into.

The arrival of Barrister Imansuangbon at the magnificent palace was carnival like as different support groups, cultural dancers etc ushered him into the palace courtyard amidst singing, dancing and sloganeering.
