Missing Lagos banker’s body found in morgue with machete cuts

The Lagos State Police Command said it had begun an investigation into the killing of the Baale of Lotu community, Chief Fatai Jubril, who was reportedly murdered in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State on Saturday over a land dispute.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, while confirming the incident in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, said the police had launched a manhunt for the suspected killers.

Hundeyin said, “On July 15, it was reported that around 12noon, one Chief Omotola Adeboyejo, the Baale of Museyo town, led some thugs numbering about 40 and accosted his younger brother, one Chief Fatai Jubril aged 43years, the Baale of Lotu community, and took him to a disputed land at Museyo, ordered him to be handcuffed by yet-to-be-identified men in mufti which he resisted and led to a crisis.

“In the process, he was hit on the forehead by a bullet, the victim died on the spot.”

The police spokesman said the corpse was removed and deposited at the Epe General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

He added that Adeboyejo, his family members and his accomplices had fled their homes.

“The situation was brought under control with meetings with the community and family leaders. Investigation has commenced towards the arrest of Chief Omotola and his group.

“The situation is being closely monitored and further development will be communicated,” Hundeyin added.

This is just as the daughter of the deceased is seeking justice for her slain father.

According to the daughter of the deceased who narrated the incident, her father was killed in the presence of her sister and their stepmother.

“A power-drunk chief ordered his escort mobile police to shoot my dad in the head after ordering his boys to beat him up over a land dispute. He took the life of my dad in the presence of my kid sister and step mum.

“He ordered one of his escorts to shoot his head after hitting him with a charm. This happened around 10am on July 15, 2023, around Museyo, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State,” she wrote on Twitter via @thegaljubril1 late Monday.

She demanded justice for her slain father.

“Please, I am seeking the help of all Nigerians to help me out so I can get justice for my father,” she added.
