2025 Int’l Olympic Day Run: Enabulele urges massive participation in Edo

Edo State will be joining the rest states of the federation in the celebration of this year’s International Olympic Day Run on Saturday, June 28, 2025 in Benin City.

Olympic Day is a global celebration of sport and getting active. It is held on 23rd June each year to commemorate the day the International Olympic Committee(IOC) was founded in 1894 – the birth of the modern Olympic Games. But Nigeria chose to celebrate it on June 28, 2025.

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC), Desmond Enabulele, in a statement  confirmed the participation of Edo State in the global sports event.

In the statement, Enabulele also confirmed the readiness of the Edo State Sports Commission for the event, calling on athletes, coaches, secretaries, staff of the Edo State Sports Commission, and the general public to participate in the 2025 International Olympic Day Run.

According to him, the event scheduled for Saturday, 28th June, 2025 will kick off at 7:00 am  at  the famous Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The runners will go through Ekenhuan Road, Plymouth Road, Akenzua Road and back to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium where certificates for participation will be presented to participants.

Leading the run is the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa

along with the Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, and the board members.

“This global event celebrates more than just sports. It is about healthy living, fitness, unity, and community wellness. Let us all come together to run for health, run for peace, and run for unity,” he stated.

Enabulele, particularly called on the youths to get involved and active in sports. 

“Let me use this opportunity to call on our youth to come out and participate in the Olympic day run event. We all need to be active in sports. It is for our physical health and wellness.”
