An intense and hard-fought contest between Nigeria and Colombia comes to a close in Talca, with both sides sharing the spoils after 90 minutes of end-to-end football.

Nigeria showed great character to come from behind as Daniel Bameyi calmly slotted home from the penalty spot in the 86th minute, rescuing a valuable point for the Flying Eagles.

U-20 world Cup: About the Argentine striker who opened scoring against Nigeria in round of 16 match

It could have been a dream start for Nigeria just three minutes in when Daniel Daga’s towering header crashed off the right post, leaving the Colombian goalkeeper completely beaten.

Colombia looked to have drawn first blood in the 21st minute, but their goal was correctly ruled out for offside by the assistant referee.

Nigeria’s young shot-stopper, 15-year-old Ebenezer Harcourt produced a string of saves to keep his side in the game.

Maigana came close twice, first curling an effort just wide of the far post and later rattling the crossbar in the 65th minute, as Nigeria pressed for the equalizer.

The second half saw a much-improved performance from the Flying Eagles. Sani came agonizingly close in the 57th minute, his thunderous strike cannoning off the woodwork once again.

Colombia, meanwhile, were relentless in attack, using their pace and strength to trouble the Nigerian defense, though they wasted several clear scoring chances.

In the end, Nigeria’s resilience paid off, ensuring they secured a point that could prove vital in their campaign.

Up next, the Flying Eagles will face Argentina in the Round of 16, a massive test that will demand sharper finishing, better concentration, and improved decision-making.
