2022 May Day bonanza: Alenkhe lauds Obaseki over new minimum wage

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has lauded the state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, over the N40,000 minimum wage for public and civil servants in the state.

In a statement, Comrade Alenkhe said the action of Mr Obaseki is a testimony of his government friendly disposition towards workers in the state.

According to him, Governor Obaseki has never left anyone in doubt that he means well for the workers.

He listed the governor’s friendly disposition towards workers to include, prompt and regular payment of salaries, regular promotions and capacity building for the workers.

Alenkhe therefore admonished the workers to reciprocate the gesture of the state government by being committed and rededicate themselves to their duty.

Prior to the governor’s announcement of the new minimum wage, Alenkhe in an interview with newsmen prayed federal and state government to review what was then considered as New Minimum Wage, saying that it has become unrealistic in the present circumstances in Nigeria.
