Youngster commits suicide in Edo over suspicion of illicit relationship with cousin

Iyowa, a community situated in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, off the Benin – Akure Road, was thrown into confusion this morning.

The cause of the confusion been the death via suicide of a youngster, Benjamin, whose body was found hanging in the early hours of the day.

Sources said that Benjamin and a cousin, Ejiro, have for some years been living with a relative of theirs in the community. Recently there was a suspicion that the duo were in an illicit relationship with each other.

Soon the affair became public knowledge and it caused some eyebrows to be raised with some people apportioning blame which did not go down well with Benjamin.

And Benjamin, probably in his desire to avoid public condemnation leading to shame, took the decision to end it all by taking his own life.

Residents starting trooping to the scene and in no time everywhere was filled with people discussing the issue and proferring what they feel should be the remedy to the situation.

Meanwhile, a call put to the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Police Command was met with a “I am yet to have details of the situation. When I do I will get back to you” which he was yet to do as at press time.
