Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has charged Edo Queens FC to replicate last season’s feat in the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL) premiership as they battle Heartland Queens of Owerri today in Match Day 10 of NWFL taking place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City. The game starts at 4pm.

Commending the players for their scintillating performance, Itua reiterated the state government’s commitment to using sports as a means of taking the unemployed army of youths off the streets. He called on the Moses Aduku- led squad to be more focused, adding that Governor Monday Okpebholo, will be elated to see Edo Queens win the  league back to back.

“The Executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is very happy with the performance of Edo Queens. They are  the defending champions, and they have all what it takes to be champions again. For a team to play 9 league matches without losing any, means that they are potential champions.

The state government is ready, football fraternity in the state are ready, and I know that Edo Queens and Bendel Insurance are also ready to make Edo State proud.”

Recall that the defending champions were in Abia State last Wednesday were they defeated Abia Angels 2-1 in front of their teeming home fans. The Benin City based ladies are currently on top of Group A log with 23 points from 9 games. They will be eyeing another convincing home win to finally seal the ticket to the Super 6.

As defending champions, Edo Queens in the first league fixtures against Heartland, went to Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri in Imo State and defeated the host 2-1.
