A group of senior journalists in Delta State has passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the State Council Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Churchill Oyowe, over the transparency so far displayed in the handling of the forthcoming Warri Correspondents’ Chapel election.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, 10 core members of the chapel threw their weight behind the supervising authority, praising its commitment to a transparent and fair electoral process ahead of the poll scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2026.
The journalists specifically commended the State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, for its professionalism and adherence to constitutional provisions during the recent Claims and Objections stage.
They noted that the Council handled all raised concerns, including a petition regarding voter eligibility, with due diligence and impartiality.
“Our confidence in the integrity of the process is anchored on the professionalism, constitutionality and impartiality demonstrated by the State Council in addressing all issues raised by stakeholders,” the statement read.
The group, which described itself as “core correspondents” of the chapel, called on the national leadership of the NUJ, chapel members, and the public to disregard any narratives aimed at discrediting the process.
They insisted that such statements do not reflect the collective position of the chapel’s membership.
“We strongly urge that the electoral process be allowed to proceed to its logical conclusion without unnecessary interference, undue pressure or attempts by any individual or group to undermine or discredit the exercise,” they added.
The journalists also appealed to all contestants and members to maintain professionalism, decorum, and healthy engagement as campaigns intensify ahead of election day.
They expressed confidence that the Delta State Council would continue to discharge its supervisory duties with fairness and integrity, ultimately delivering a peaceful and credible election that would strengthen the unity and institutional credibility of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.
