Recently the family of Vicky Ogbebor, the lady that alleged in a viral video that she saw Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki lead a team of miscreants to disrupt counting of votes at a polling unit and subsequent destruction of ballot boxes and papers, came on air to appeal for mercy on the lady’s behalf as she was said to have acted out of ignorance.
Making a plea to Governor Obaseki on behalf of the lady, human rights activist, Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor(aka Ultimate Equals), said that the lady did not get her facts right.
“You cannot give a dog a bad name to hang it. Yes, I have said a lot about Governor Godwin Obaseki, day in, day out. Sometimes it would be unfair to him when you say things that are not true about him. Most things that I say about him are relevant. I am a humanist and I am concerned about public interest. I have related with the DSS Director in Edo State and also the DSS at the federal level.
“Obaseki was not at the scene of the disruption of vote counting and destruction of ballot boxes on March 18th as Vicky alleged. It is wrong when the governor was not there for Vicky to scream allegations against him. It wasn’t true. I am not defending him as I am not his spokesperson. It could have been true that she saw some aides of the governor like what happened to me at Urhokpota Hall when the Chief of Staff, Osaigbovo Iyoha, ordered some chaps to attack me.
“The luck that I had was that you don’t kill a good man. I have been nice to these guys. They all know me. They refused to carry out his order. If anything had happened I would have thought that because he works with the governor, Obaseki was behind it.
“Obaseki didn’t know anything about the ballot boxes snatching and Vicky didn’t see him there. I spoke with the girl and she said that she has gone into hiding as the governor is using the DSS to look for her. I have discussed with the DSS Director on her case. Such a nice and wonderful woman. You can only compare her to the FBI and KGB. When Iyoha and others wanted to forment trouble at George Idah Primary School that I called. She sent me a Hilux filled with DSS operatives within five minutes. Vicky owes Godwin Obaseki an apology.”
Congratulating Solomon Arase on his appointment as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission(PSC), Eholor said: “I think he can do a lot. I want the police to be reformed. To take the police away from the VIPs. If you want to have special bodyguards you can pay for them. Don’t turn the police to domestic helpers so that they don’t lose their self-esteem.
“I have taken the police to ECOWAS Court as regards Police checkpoints. We’re not at war. The first time that we saw a police checkpoints was during the civil war. They blocked the road so that the culprits who were running could be apprehended. The police can do better with CIDs instead of blocking the road, inconvieniencing people, harrassing them and collecting money. That should be a thing of the past. Police must focus more on getting better equipment, better remuneration so that they don’t transfer their aggression to us.”
