The significance of Edo State hosting the 20th National Sports Festival – Philip Shaibu

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, who is the chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) holding in the state, has asserted that the festival is a uniting force from the spate of insecurity, terrorism, banditry, religious crisis that is pervading the country.

On the issue of hosting the games to win, Hon. Shaibu said: “The games are not over yet. Delta is leading. It doesn’t mean that they have won. There are still a lot of gold medals to compete for.

“For us it is not about who won the games that matter. What’s the purpose of having this games? To unite the country. Edo has been the centre of unity of this country.

“That the games are coming now and the Edo State Government is funding it and provided such a huge facility shows that the unity of Nigeria is again consolidated here.

“That shows that the unity of Nigeria is again coming to stay because Edo was the centre of unity after the war(1967 – 1970). Edo again is bringing Nigeria together when there are a lot of religious crisis, banditry, terrorism and insecurity everywhere.

“So, Edo State is bringing back Nigeria alive through this games,” he posited.
