Immediate Past President of the World Medical Association(WMA), Dr. Osahon Oscar Enabulele, has identified the problem with Nigeria to be what he called sham reformism which leaves the citizens deformed.

Dr. Enabulele did the identification while talking on the occasion of a birthday reception organized in his honour by Comrade Austin Osakue, the President of a non-governmental organisation(NGO), the Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, at the prestigious Protea Hotel, Benin City on Sunday evening.

The celebrant going down memory lane recalled that Comrade Osakue had through his organisation similarly honoured him with an award of excellence many years ago.

“If we want to change Nigeria, we have people who are already changing Nigeria in their own meaningful ways. Comrade Osakue believes in lifting up people, making them further believe in themselves and to get them further committed.

“Now, in Nigeria, we all seem to have been thrown into what we always call miasma of hopelessness. We have been transformed into sorry appendages of sham reformism. Everyone comes clarion call of reform. They end up reforming their pockets and they leave Nigerians deformed. They leave the citizens deformed.

“The gospel is always alluring. But soon after they’re elected they’ll become worst for it and that has been part of the tragedy of the Nigerian state.”

Going further, Enabulele asserted: “Osakue talks about pushing me forward. But I am saying we already have people like him. We can push him forward because what we are looking for resides in him and many other icons of excellence.”

In their tributes to Dr. Enabulele notable personalities like a former President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Professor Dominic Osaghae; Dr. Joseph Adewole, Head of Department, Family Health, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH); Dr. Ehigha Enabudoso, Chairman, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria(MDCAN), UBTH, all made a mention of his zest for work and his spirit of overcoming obstacles to any project that he handles.

In his own comment, Comrade Osakue described Dr. Enabulele as an Edo son who conquered the world.

“He went, he saw, he conquered and now is back here with us.”
