Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission(NSC), has issued a directive to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

This directive mandates that the Super Falcons players and their support crew must receive their allocated share of the prize money earned from the ongoing #WAFCON tournament before the NFF can utilize any remaining funds.

Dikko confirmed this instruction on Saturday, emphasizing its importance even before the Super Falcons played their semi-final match against South Africa on Tuesday. The implication is that the players’ financial rewards are a priority.

The financial stakes are considerable. Even if the Super Falcons finish in fourth place, Nigeria is guaranteed a minimum of $300,000. Securing a bronze medal would increase their earnings to $350,000.

Finishing as runners-up would bring in $500,000. And, of course, if the Super Falcons were to win their tenth #WAFCON title, they would be awarded a substantial $1 million.

Dikko further clarified the financial arrangement, stating that the players are entitled to a 30 percent share of whatever the Super Falcons earn throughout the tournament.
