Renowned journalist and businessman, Comrade Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, has once again showcased his generosity and support for worthy causes by paying off his ailing colleague, Mr. Dave Okpogadie’s, N2.5 million hospital bill.
Mr. Okpogadi was diagnosed with cancer of the gum early last year and needed funds for the treatment and has been battling with the ailment ever since.
In order to raise funds for his treatment, his family, friends and colleagues have been soliciting assistance from both individuals and the government. The NUJ Delta Council also raised some funds towards the treatment, but it was not enough as the situation has persisted.
Unfortunately, all efforts to reach out to the Delta State Government to step in and help proved abortive until Asiwaju Shola Adebayo again came to the rescue.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has released a statement of appreciation to Mr. Adebayo for his generosity. The NUJ leadership acknowledged Mr. Adebayo as one who shows true leadership by reaching out, even in the most difficult times, and praised his compassion and care for others, describing him as an inspiration for all to emulate.
The State Council also prayed for Mr. Adebayo, wishing him good health, happiness, and success in life.
The Statement reads:
Expression of Profound Appreciation To Asiwaju Sola Adebayo
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, on behalf of all its members, expresses its profound gratitude to our distinguished elder, veteran journalist, and philanthropist, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, for his extraordinary and selfless contributions toward supporting our colleague, Dave Okpogadie, in his battle with cancer of the gum.
Your uncommon generosity and dedication, even in these economically challenging times, have gone above and beyond all expectations. Following your initial significant support during the first fund raising effort, your singular act of providing the entire N2.5 million during the second appeal fund drive has left us awestruck and deeply touched.
This extraordinary act of kindness is a wonderful and true reflection of your compassionate spirit, commitment to humanity, and dedication to the welfare of others. You have demonstrated that true leadership and greatness lie in the ability to uplift others, even when it is not convenient.
On behalf of the NUJ Delta State Council, we say a heartfelt thank you. Your exemplary actions are an inspiration to us all, and we pray that your kindness is rewarded abundantly. May you continue to be blessed with good health, prosperity, and fulfillment in all your endeavours.
Signed:
Ruth Omigie (Welfare Committee Chairman)
Amaechi Okwara (Welfare Committee Secretary
Churchill Oyowe (Council Chairman)
Victor Sorokwu (Council Secretary).
