The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) has posited that the appointment of the former Deputy Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, as the Director General(DG) of the National Institute for Sports(NIS), “will usher in a new era of innovation and progress in the Nigerian sports sector.”
In a congratulatory message endorsed by Dr. Festus Alenkhe, Chairman and Comrade Andy Egbon, Secretary, the Council described Shaibu’s appointment as the DG of the NIS by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “well-deserved.”
Going further, the Edo NUJ submitted that “his appointment is a testament to Shaibu’s unwavering commitment to public service, his long-standing contributions to the development of sports, and his enduring passion for youth empowerment and excellence.
“The NUJ is confident that Comrade Shaibu will bring visionary leadership and transformative reforms to the National Institute for Sports, drawing from his rich experience in governance and grassroots mobilisation.”
While offering Shaibu its full support “as he embarks on this new national assignment” the Edo NUJ affirmed that “his appointment at this critical time offers a great opportunity to reposition the Institute towards fulfilling its mandate of producing elite coaches, sports managers, and researchers that will boost Nigeria’s global sporting image.”
