Power Play in Edo State: Assembly Speaker suspends opponent

Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku,  on Monday, wield the big stick as he suspended Sunny Ojiezele Ikpenomen, who represents Esan South East Constituency in the hallowed chambers.

The suspension, which will last three months, is said to have been triggered by what Agbebaku referred to as “inciting disunity among members.”

Ojiezele’s suspension was announced during plenary with the Sergeant-at-Arms directed to walk him out of.

By the unwritten power allocation rule in the acclaimed heartbeat state, Ojiezele, a two time member of the legislature, whose political base is Edo Central, was expected to have been selected as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly been the highest ranking lawmaker from the axis until intrigues between the two major camps in the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state set in and the position was shifted to Edo North where Agbebaku hails from.
