The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has announced that it is set for the National Convention scheduled for Oct. 30th and 31st in Abuja.

Mr Chris Nehikhare, State Publicity Secretary (SPS) of the party announced this while briefing the media on the state’s chapter preparations for the convention.

He disclosed that so far so good, the state chapter of the party had all it’s elected national and statutory delegates ready for “the most peaceful” election to elect the party’s national executives.

He noted that the party’s concentration is majorly on the political situation in the country, which according to him is to ensure saving Nigeria from the bad governance currently plaguing it.

“And the first step we will be taking is to elect the new executive during the convention. An executive that will pilot the party to victory come 2023.

“In doing that, the party, a couple of days ago, unveiled the convention logo, slogan and theme with the title, ‘Come, Let’s Rescue Nigeria Together.’

“It is our umbrella covering over Nigeria, and you know our umbrella is big enough to accommodate all manner and shades of people for the common good of the country,” he said.

Nehikhare disclosed that the party’s plan was to have a country where there was security, vibrant economy, affordable living standard, affordable health, and education which was the key to sustainable development for the country.

“But we are however disappointed with the present leadership of the country, because in the last four years all the indices have actually turned negative, with insecurity as worse.

“In 2015, when the present leadership came on board, insecurity was prevalent in just one region of the country, but now in 2021, there is insecurity in all the six regions of the country.

“So the clarion call for Nigerians to come and join hands with the PDP to rescue the country cannot be done at a better time than now,” Nehikhare said.

Going further, he noted that the present leadership of the country had failed to deliver on electoral promises made, particular with regard to security.

“That is why we want everybody to join hands to rescue Nigeria, because doing nothing, changes nothing. We all have to understand that Nigeria is our country.”

Nehikhare also announced that just as national positions were zoned to other states, the position of the Deputy National Youth leader had been zoned to Edo disclosing that the state chapter already had a candidate for the position, in the person of Timothy Osadolor.
