The Edo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today witnessed a remarkable display of unity, enthusiasm and renewed hope as aspirants seeking to contest various elective positions on the platform of the party appeared for screening at the party secretariat on Ovonramwen Street, Benin City.
In a process highlighting the screening exercise, which covered aspirants for the Senate, House of Representatives and Edo State House of Assembly, turned the party secretariat into a beehive of activities, with supporters, stakeholders and party faithful trooping in from across the state.
Further more, the process described “the atmosphere throughout the day was vibrant and carnival-like, as members who had not seen one another for a long time — particularly during the difficult period of internal crisis that challenged the party — reunited warmly with hugs, handshakes and renewed camaraderie.”
According to the process, “the development clearly reflects the growing confidence of members in the rebuilding process currently ongoing within the PDP and stands as the clearest evidence yet that the PDP in Edo State is united once again and fully prepared for the task ahead.
“The party leadership commends all aspirants, supporters and members for their peaceful conduct, maturity and commitment to the ideals of the PDP.”
The party describes that “today’s successful exercise further demonstrates that the PDP remains the most organized, people-oriented and grassroots-driven political party in Edo State, with the structure, experience and vision required to provide purposeful representation and leadership for the people.”
Leadership of the Edo State PDP Screening Committee for the exercise comprised: Martins Osakwe (Chairman), Hadja Hadiza Umoru (member), Chris Nehikhare (member), Benjamin Ehinlebodiaye (member) and Richard Ehimigbai (Secretary).
As preparations continue for the forthcoming elections, the Edo PDP remains committed to internal democracy, fairness, unity and the collective aspiration of restoring hope and confidence among the people.
