The opposition party in Edo State, still reeling from its rejection, is struggling to come to terms with the remarkable strides made by Senator Monday Okpebholo in less than one month in office.

Key into Shine Agenda CPS to Okpebholo pleads with reporters

In their desperate attempt to downplay his historic achievements over just 28 days, they coined the phrase “waka-waka governor” to attack his practical approach to governance.

However, this label completely misses the point of what Okpebholo represents as a leader. Governor Okpebholo’s leadership is characterized by taking swift, decisive actions to tackle the pressing issues facing Edo State.

Unlike his predecessor, who took months to appoint key officials and wasted time in abstract meetings, Okpebholo has immediately rolled up his sleeves and engaged with the state’s facilities and ongoing projects.

His hands-on style and commitment to on-the-ground inspections enable him to address challenges in real time, moving beyond the passive, boardroom-based governance that plagued the last administration.

Transparency is at the heart of Okpebholo’s approach. He is not only focused on addressing challenges but also on informing the people of Edo about the true state of affairs he inherited. This openness prevents the opposition from wrongly claiming credit for progress or misrepresenting his administration’s efforts, as they would prefer.

Instead of continuing their divisive rhetoric and partisanship, the opposition should focus on providing constructive criticism that can help build Edo State’s future. The people of Edo have chosen a governor who is exceeding their expectations—one who is committed to delivering practical governance that will position the state as a prime destination for investors, tourists, and residents.

Governor Okpebholo’s swift actions and clear vision are transforming Edo, and those who doubted him will soon be confronted with even more impressive results. Let the opposition prepare for even more disappointment as the Governor continues his mission to enhance the state’s development and prosperity.
