Okpebholo is meticulous, says Permanent Secretary

The Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Works, Engr. John Obanor, has asserted that government is a continuum and Governor Monday Okpebholo is a meticulous man who has his own way of probing into projects before he gives his approval.

On road infrastructure he said that the administration of Governor Okpebholo would consolidate, even enhance upon what was on ground, adding “we desire to come up with something substantive and is part of why certain things are being critically examined.”

On the issue of the approach of the raining season which could slow down the speed of roads construction and other projects, the Permanent Secretary said, “it’s rather unfortunate that we don’t have control over time. Whether we like it or not we’re in a zone where the dry spell is very short.”

He continued that “in some areas work has not stopped. There are some projects that work has not stopped” adding that “the legacy projects would be improved on and equally increased upon without hurting anybody.”

On intervention job on some bad portions of road projects, Engr. Obanor stressed that all will be done to address the grey areas “when we talk about intervention Ekenwa Road was inherited; Textile Mill Road was inherited. There are others like Benin Technical Road; Uwelu Road was inherited. Work are ongoing on these projects.”

Engr. Obanor disclosed that there are areas where people are not supposed to have developed but which they have developed which has resulted in complications.

On the flyover project, he said that “there are procedures when it comes to construction. I don’t think the company handling the flyover for instance have left site. They have always been there.

“Before you embark on bridge work structures that have similarity with bridge work. There’s what we call site investigation, soil investigation they’re supposed to tell you the depth you will go.”
