Okpebholo congratulates Yahya, Oyetunde over victory in NUJ election

The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has extended his warmest congratulations to Mr. Alhassan Yahya on his recent election as President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The Governor also congratulated Dr. (Mrs.) Bimbo Oyetunde on her remarkable achievement as the newly elected and first female Deputy National President of the NUJ.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of a free and responsible press in promoting transparency and accountability within the government and society at large. He noted that the media plays a crucial role in informing the public, shaping discourse, and advocating for the rights of citizens. The Governor urged Mr. Yahya to continue championing these values during his tenure.

Dr. Oyetunde’s election marks a significant milestone in the history of journalism in Nigeria, reflecting her dedication, hard work, and commitment to the ideals of truth, integrity, and professionalism in the media. As the first female to hold this esteemed position, Dr. Oyetunde is paving the way for greater inclusivity and representation within the media sector.

Governor Okpebholo called for collaboration between the Edo State Government and the NUJ to ensure that journalists in the state are well-equipped to carry out their duties effectively. 

“Let us work together to create an environment that supports freedom of expression and the pursuit of truth,” he added.
