Obaseki’s endorsed candidates booed out of NLC programme

Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Oredo West and East constituencies of Edo State House of Assembly were on Tuesday booed by delegates of the 2023 delegates conference of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Edo State Chapter which held in Benin City.

The candidates – Dr Aisosa Amadasun for Oredo West and Uyi Omosigho for Oredo East – said to be favourites of the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, reportedly left the event in shame and embarrassment.

The pre-election programme was going on when the two candidates suddenly surfaced and went straight to the high table to take their seats with top functionaries of the NLC and representatives of the Edo State Government.

Trouble, however, started when one of the candidates, Dr. Aisosa Amadasun, was given a microphone to speak. As she took the microphone and was speaking about herself and her party the PDP, the NLC members became infuriated as “no, no, no, this is not a political event” rented the air.

The national delegate and representative of National President of NLC at the conference, Comrade Mike Olanrewaju, however intervened, as he pleaded for the two candidates to speak, but the workers turned down his plea, insisting that the gathering was not a political gathering.
