Oba of Benin commends Obaseki, lawmakers over private property law

Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has commended Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and members of the State House of Assembly for the role they played over the accelerated passage of Private Property Protection Law (PPPL).

The Oba equally  registered displeasure over activities of some youths and community leaders to undermine the law and called for enabling enactments to strengthen the operation of the law in the state.

His Royal Majesty disclosed this when the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, led other members on solidarity visit to the palace. 

The Speaker’s visit to the palace also coincided with the official decoration of His Royal Majesty with the 2021 emblem by men of the Nigeria Legion in commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

 Oba Ewuare expressed worry over what he termed chaotic development at the State Assembly over change of leadership  soon after the swearing in of Governor Obaseki and advised the lawmakers to find a peaceful way to establish a network for resolving crisis.

He thanked the Speaker for identifying with the palace to celebrate 2020 lgue festival, adding that there is no single Edo person both home and abroad who does not trace their route to Benin Kingdom even  as far as Dahomey.

 He, therefore, called for a concerted effort at building a unified Edo nation by all and sundry while urging the parliamentarians not to entertaim any bill contrary to the interest of traditional institutions in the state.

The speaker in a speech earlier said he and his colleagues were at the palace to  felicitate with the monarch on the sucessful completion of Igue festival and in consultations with policies that will fastrack develoment to Edo State.

In a chat with newsmen, the speaker said: “For me, the visit signal more developments and peaceful atmosphere for Edo State. Moreso, that the prayers for the state by every one and the traditional institution come 2021 I believe Edo will be better.”

He said the Assembly in consultation with the palace and Edo people will do the needful, taking into consideration the reality of the moment to strengthen the Private Property Protection Law(PPPL) to ensure property owners are fully protected.
