Naija LiveTV tackles Bayelsa governor’s aide on defamation of character

The attention of the management of Otingbi’ Media (Owners and Operators of Naija Live TV) has been drawn to a social media post made by one Steve Tekerebo, a Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, defaming the character of Saint Mienpamo Onitsha, the Chief Executive Officer of Naija Live TV.

The post made on Sunday, December 19th, 2021 by Mr. Steve Tekerebo, and currently floods the cyberspace, describes our Publisher, Saint Mienpamo Onitsha as a purveyor of fake news further contains a picture of him on handcuff.

Due to the misguided post, our CEO has received several calls from prominent personalities from different parts of the country, asking to know whether he was recently arrested and paraded by security agencies for any crime. The implications of this cannot be overemphasized. It is therefore necessary to put the record straight for future reference.

The management wishes to inform the general public that Saint Mienpamo Onitsha was never at anytime paraded for any form of identification purposes by security agencies for the commission of any crime; neither has he been convicted for any crime whatsoever. Put another way, Saint Mienpamo Onitsha is not an ex-convict. We wish to add that supposing Saint Mienpamo Onitsha was accused for committing any crime, he remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

Therefore, the display of the said photograph which was not made public by the security agencies further violates Saint Mienpamo’s right to presumption of innocence, and also holds him out as a guilty person, thereby defaming his character.

The management of Otingbi’ Media (Owners and Operators of Naija Live TV) is therefore giving Mr. Steve Tekerebo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State, twenty-four hours to put down the said post, and also tender a written apology on his social media handle, and on four national newspapers and one national television station within the same time limit.

Failure to do this will leave the management with no other option but to approach the relevant authorities to seek redress.

We are using this medium to also call on our dear esteemed fans and readers not to panic as we are currently consulting with our legal team for the best way out to bring the culprit to book.

Thanks..
Signed
