Situated along the busy Benin – Agbor Expressway, at the small town of Evbuobanosa, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, midway between the Edo State capital and Agbor, Delta State, Lighthouse University offers a serene academic environment, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, for students.

Speaking during a recent facility tour of the institution’s senior management staff, including the registrar, Mr.Olugbenga Olajide and the bursar, Dr. Dominic Eichie, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Imianvan, disclosed that so far, the nascent tertiary institution has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC), to operate 15 programmes.

Prof. Imianvan listed the accredited undergraduate programmes of the school, which was founded by Rev. (Dr.) Felix Omobude, the General Overseer of the New Covenant Gospel Church as Accounting, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Mass Communication, Microbiology and Political Science.

Other accredited courses are Public Administration, Science Laboratory Technology, Sociology, Social Works, Criminology and Security Studies, International Relations and Diplomacy, Computer Engineering and Business Administration.

Showcasing the state-of-the-art lecture theatres, e-library, physical library with modern textbooks, Microbiology laboratory, Physics and Science laboratories, Chemistry laboratory, Machine, and Mechanical/Electrical workshops, the male and female student hotels, the clinic and lots more, the vice chancellor urged parents and guardians to make the school as their preferred institution for their children and wards by enrolling them there.

Speaking at the university’s permanent site at Evbuobanosa, the Chancellor of Lighthouse University, Rev. Omobude, noted that Lighthouse University is a place for academic excellence and discipline, stressing that “in today’s world, there is no room for mediocrity.

He said: “Excellence must be our standard. The dream of Lighthouse University is to produce men and women who will not stand before obscure men but before kings and royalty.”

The man of God emphasized that the institution must be characterized by godliness, innovation, creativity, and a thirst for growth, assuring that the institution which is built on a solid foundation, possesses the necessary capacity – in staff, environment, and facilities to achieve its vision of making the ivory tower a world-class ivory tower.

He added: “We are not here by accident. We have worked, and will continue to work, to build excellence”, assuring that the Lighthouse University has been well positioned to compete amongst not just the best universities in Nigeria but also amongst the best globally.

“I therefore, invite all well-meaning individuals, groups, institutions and the three tiers of government to partner with the Lighthouse University which I believe will bring about a positive and permanent transformation to the world.”

While acknowledging that growth is a process, Rev. Omobude assured of continuous improvement in facilities and academics, and called on the students to be the university’s best ambassadors.

One of the pioneer students of the school, Aimuamwosa Nosa Joshua of the Department of Political Science was full of praises for the school authority for establishing the university which is catering for the educational and moral needs of its students.

A visibly elated Aimuamwosa who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said that everything the students needed for academic excellence is available at university, noting that the learning atmosphere is very serene and conducive.

He said: “There’s good accommodation with uninterrupted electricity and water supply. Indeed, Lighthouse University is a place to be for students who want to excel academically and with moral rectitude under the tutorship of our excellent lecturers.

“Lighthouse University is a great institution, and I’m highly elated and the feelings are indescribable. I have no excuse whatsoever not to excel with my studies here. I am very happy. In fact, I am blessed to be one of the students of the Lighthouse University, Evbuobanosa near Benin City.”

Speaking in the same vein, a female student of the institution, Miss Osayande Chukwudumebi, who’s of the Accounting Department disclosed that the school is up to date with learning materials, saying that the lecturers are very sound.

In search of the golden fleece, Miss Osayande said that she came all the way from Lagos to Lighthouse University, adding that she deliberately chose the school because of its high quality and standard of learning.

Besides, she said that the choice of the institution was also influenced by the founder, Rev. Omobude, who ensures that students are well trained in this university so that they can be useful to their immediate families, society and the world at large.

She added: “Above all, the entrepreneurship training skills programmes made available by the authorities of the university are helping us to prepare for future endeavours in creativity and innovations after our graduations through learnings.”
