Rufai’s death, great loss to Nigerian football – Shaibu

Just In: Peter Obi’s tribute to Peter Rufai

Chief Patrick Olusegun Odegbami, the popular jersey No 7 winger of the Green Eagles squad (now Super Eagles) in the 80s, in a terse note sent to The Frontier this evening, says he has been in the traffic jam for over four hours, as at the time he sent the message, on his way to Lagos.

According to the 70 years old ex-football international and CEO of 103.7 FM radio, who also anchors a football programme on NTA called The Parliament, he left his base in Abeokuta since 11 O’clock this morning to attend a meeting in Lagos, but as at 4.30 this evening, he was still wallowing in the logjam with no hope of getting to his destination soon.

Read the full message titled, “Endless pain on a ‘cursed’ road!!”

Endless pain on a ‘cursed’ road!!

It is 4:30 pm.

I am in front of Mountain of Fire University on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressroad, heading to Lagos.

Shortly before leaving the house in Abeokuta this morning, I checked Google map and it read 1hr 31 mins to Magodo in Lagos, where I was going to attend a meeting of some Yoruba elders.

I left Abeokuta at 11am.

We have not arrived Magodo. Mathematically, we have been on the road for five and a half hours, and we are still some 30 km from Lagos, without the faintest idea when we would arrive. The traffic on that road now is ‘mad’, both sides jammed, a common occurrence for the over 20 years that the ‘accursed’ road has been under reconstruction, and is still uncompleted.

Even as I write this, we are still stuck, both sides of the express road a sea of frustrated Nigerians. In the past 4 hours, we may have covered only a kilometre.
