Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) has charged the state government to create an enabling environment for private investors to do business in the state.
This formed the major outcome of its emergency congress on Thursday evening while reacting to the recent outage of the Ossiomo Power Plant which for the last three years has been its only source of electricity power supply.
The congress mandated the leadership of the union to remain with Ossiomo Power Plant.
While also commending the government for ongoing developmental projects, such as the Ramat Park Flyover and the rebuilding of the burnt Oba Market. The Union further called on the contractor handling the flyover to expedite action and deliver the project in record time.
Going further, the congress condemned the recent killing of eight operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) during an attack on BUA Cement factory in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of the state and urged the State Government to strengthen the security architecture across the state.
The Congress congratulated the Esama of Benin Kingdom, and Grand Patron of the Union, Sir Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, on his 91st birthday celebration and wished him good health and long life. Congress also acknowledged his contributions to media development in Nigeria.
