The residents of the area adjoining the BEDC power station located of Sapele Road close to the Santana Market in Benin this morning went on rampage, blocked the popular East West Road(Sapele Road) barring all vehicular movement.
They resorted to this action on account of their grievances with the authorities which emanated from the total neglect they were made to experience as their complain that a dead body which has been lying on the road since Monday morning was not evacuated despite the efforts they made.
Residents of the community told Popular News that when they noticed the body of the unidentified lady (which was as at then still breathing) laying on the road they notified the nearby Dumez Police Station whose operatives promised to come and see what can be done after they collected a sum of N5, 000 from the complainants.
The situation persisted the next day, Tuesday, as the policemen refused to honour their promise. The residents said the policemen demanded for ₦80, 000 with which they will hire a vehicle and transfer the body to a morgue before they could come to retrieve the now lifeless body of the lady, a condition that the residents said that they cannot meet.
Thus they resorted to taking over that part of the road to the discomfort of commuters and other road users.
