Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor (aka Ultimate Equals), Director of Diaspora and Contact Mobilisation of the Labour Party (LP), has vehemently condemned the exorbitant price of N30m placed on the party’s expression of interest form for the Edo State Governorship election coming up in September.
He said: “This already negate article 9(3) of the Labour Party(LP) constitution which states that every member shall have the right to vote and be voted for, into any elective posts, in any organ of the Party, subject to guidelines by the INEC or any organ so designated and in line with Article 9(3) of this constitution.”
He averred that not every member of the party has such huge amount of money, ₦30m that he described as outrageous.
According to him, “the form is just a paper filled up with questions and answers. How can LP be selling it at N30,000,000. This is LP and we must bring politics closer to the people and make them feel a sense of belonging because without the grassroots people then there is absolutely no politics.
“And besides this is governorship election and not the presidential election and even at that it still does not make any sense. If LP can sell the governorship form for N30m it means that the LP is not different from every other political party because a person who will likely buy the form at the rate of N30m it means that that person when he or she wins the election the first thing to do will be to recover the funds.
“Just imagine N30m going out of the state treasury into one man’s purse, then the state is doomed to fail.
“I am calling on Peter Obi and the National Chairman of the LP, Julius Abure and every other person involved in this approval to call themselves to order because this is not right in any way and I am ready to revolt against this outrageous fee and anyone who cares to join me will be welcomed.
