JOOPSA launch: Edo State set to be the best – Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that the state is set to be the most digitized public service in Nigeria on account of the investment in digital infrastructure, having laid over 600km of fibre optic cable across the 18 local government areas of the state.

He was speaking on Saturday at the launch of the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) and also the commemoration of the 84th birthday celebration of Chief John Odigie Oyegun, a former governor of the state and also a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) held inside the premises of the Academy situated in GRA, Benin City.

“It’s only rational to invest in capacity building – through JOOPSA – so as to enable public servants to live up to the mandate of optimal services to the public as well as the hordes of private investors rushing to take advantage of the conducive business climate in the state,” he stressed.

He disclosed that “the Academy is named after the first Executive Governor of Edo State and Permanent Secretary, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who embodies the fine ethos of integrity, fidelity and excellence.

“These attributes are woven into the fabric of the modules delivered at the Academy and drive its mission to deliver bespoke, customized and relevant training to improve public service delivery in the country and making Edo State the best place to work and live in the next thirty years.”

Going further, Governor Obaseki affirmed that “it will interest you to know that JOOPSA is currently in partnership with some of the best institutions in the world to offer the best of training in Edo State, including it’s pioneering collaboration with Nexford, DAI, among others to ensure that it’s programmes are globally relevant.

“I want to applaud the pioneering Director General of JOOPSA for the wonderful job she has done in positioning the Academy as the centre of excellence in traing and research for public service reforms and policy implementation.”
