Jackboot mentality of a media personality

As they say some sh*t do happen sometimes. Some chaps are as funny as they come.

Had a funny experience some hours back when as it is usual with me I sent the link to a story published on my news site to a supposedly enlightened and knowledgeable media personality who a few years back held the position of a commissioner in charge of media issues in one of the states.

I got a shocker when he pointedly told me to stop sending to him such reports which he considers not palatable to his political inclinations or else he ‘deletes’ me (that was his exact word). I needed no further prompt than to immediately press my block button to act ahead of his plans. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

My concern is if such a personality that is expected to be abreast of the code of journalism viz to gather, edit and pass information to the public should act in such a way then where are we heading to? Does he know that as a journalist you are not supposed to exhibit open bias for any party on an issue? Yes, as humans everyone have some bias but it is expected that the news merchant should cloth his in a protective garb at least for the sake of credibility.

Now, you go back to some weeks ago when the same character had issues with a much younger reporter who rubbished him in the mud. The reason begin to fall into place. Mr. ex-Commissioner, it seems, does not know how to handle issues even as he chooses to gallivant from one political divide to the other while still maintaining his membership of his avowed political choice. Guess he has taken some chips off his ex-jackboots wearing boss who is deft in such double speak mannerism.
