A support group of the Labour Party(LP), the Integrity Group, has condemned in totality the support that the 36 states chairmen of the party and also the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is giving to the embattled national chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure.

In a statement that it made available to the media this Sunday morning through one of its leaders, Ambassador Curtis Eghosa Ugbo, the Integrity Group expressed shock that the 36 states chairmen of the LP are supporting Barrister Abure and his national exco even with the amount of cases of forgery, falsification and the likes that have been brought against him through the police and the courts.

The Integrity Group said by their continued support for Abure’s criminal tendencies the 36 states chairmen are sending out a signal that they are his co-conspirators in the legion of infractions he has been accused of thus far.

“How can the 36 states chairmen of the LP continue to give their backing to Barrister Abure inspite of the legion of corruption charges brought against him from all over the country. The states chairmen’s support for Abure can only be because they’re also beneficiaries of his evil schemes.”

Going further, the group said that the wild wolf cry by Abure that his travails is caused by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) “is at most meant to distract Nigerians who stood solidly with Peter Obi, the LP’s Presidential candidate, because of his cleanliness and belief in bringing about a new Nigeria that all and sundry would be proud of.

“Was it the APC that masterminded the legion of falsification of court documents which has been the stock-in-trade of Abure and his lieutenants in the national exco. Or was APC in the know about how Abure got himself involved in changing party flag from legally elected candidates to the highest bidders?

“We are also sending a note of warning to the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to be very cautious of taking sides with Abure on this issue under review or else they are viewed as his co-travellers in the forgery cases.

“NLC must protect its image and stand firm in upholding his credibility at all times. They should not allow Abure suck them up in his deception. Without mincing words Abure’s corrupt practices has nothing to do with the APC. His corrupt tendencies has caught up with him and he should be allowed to face the music.

“His prosecution for corruption is an internal affair of the LP and will have no effect on the positive outcome of the party’s fight to reclaim all it’s mandates from the presidential to the states houses of assembly poll.”
