Well known and respected ex-Nigerian international boxer, Albert Eromosele, now the Edo State Boxing Association Chairman, is optimistic of a good outing for the state boxers as they head to Lagos for Olympic national trials beginning from Wednesday, 19th July.

A former International Boxing Association (IBA), International Boxing Organization (IBO) and International Boxing Federation(IBF) intercontinental junior middleweight champion himself, Albert Eromosele while addressing the eight boxers to represent Edo State at the trials, revealed that opportunities come only once and only available to the brave and patriotic ones.

“We are not sending you to a war we have never participated in. Of course we have been there before. We were once boxers like you guys and we are happy to be your mentors. Now it is your time to go there and prove your worth,” the former national champion maintained.

Eight Edo boxers, four men and four women have been invited by the Nigeria Boxing Federation(NBF) to compete with boxers from other states ahead of the Olympic qualifiers and other international events for which selected boxers are expected to represent the country. The 2-day national trials which begins on Wednesday is to be staged at the Brai Ayonute Boxing Gymnasium, National Stadium Lagos.

As part of the motivation package for the departing boxers, Albert “Bad Boy” Eromosele, who was in company of another boxing great, Isaac Ikhuoria and other Edo State Boxing Association Board members, donated 18 hand gloves and 18 wraps to the athletes while a board member, Emoefe Avwenaghagha, also donated the sum of N50,000 to the athletes to boost their morale.

The athletes have promised to make the state proud at the national trials.
