Four personnel of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) are under lock and key in the state Police Command Headquarters in Benin undergoing interrogation on the role they played in the death of a cab driver, Henry Osemwenkhia, on Wednesday, February 5th.
DSP Moses Yamu, the Police Public Relation Officer of the Command confirmed the arrest and detention of the NSCDC personnel as investigation is ongoing on the part they played in the death of the cab driver.
Information gathered by Popular News is that Osemwenkhia, who goes by the moniker, the Lord is good, on Tuesday, February 4, had an altercation with a group of ‘yahoo boys’ at De Kaso Hotel situated on Limit Road, Off Sapele Road where he had gone to drop a passenger.
According to the gist the ‘yahoo boys’ seeing that Osemwenkhia was too tough for them to deal with beckoned on the NSCDC personnel on guard duty at the hotel to support them.
Osemwenkhia was said to have sustained injuries in the process which resulted in his been taken to a nearby health facility for medical attention. He was said to have lodged a complaint at the New Etete Police Station giving details of his ordeal.
He died the following day while the result of a scan carried out on him was been awaited. This led to his bewildered colleagues in the e hailing business to go on protest on the streets of the Benin metropolis on Thursday morning demanding for Justice.
