Former Edo Governor supports Veteran Football Championship

The 12th edition of the National Veteran Cup have been given a boost by Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion.

The competition that is expected to begin November 17th, 2022, in Benin-City, Edo State, will take place at the Lucky Igbinedion Football Pitch, Etete, GRA Benin City.

President of Edo State All Stars, Comrade Johnbull Edosomwan, disclosed this at the weekend during a friendly match organized by Edo State All Stars as part of the build up towards the forthcoming Veteran Championship.

He averred that participating states are expected to arrive Benin-City on Wednesday, 16th while competition begin on Thursday, 17th of November, 2022.

“Initially the championship was supposed to start on Wednesday, 9th of November 2022, but because of logistics we have to shift the date to the 16th. This is a big event, and as host, we are highly committed to ensuring the best.

“This is a national event and people are looking up to Edo State to surpass previous records of other states that have hosted the competition. So for us here, we are putting all logistics in place to ensure a successful hosting.

“I am particularly happy that His Excellency, Chief Lucky Nosaghare Igbinedion, has given approval to us to make use of his Etete Pitch in GRA. It is not everybody that is given that opportunity, Edo All Stars are privileged to have our big father, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion as member.

“In fact for those that did not know, he was the one that founded All Stars in Edo State. Since then Edo State have never had the opportunity of hosting the competition, now that the opportunity had come, we will make sure we use the opportunity to our benefit.

“We are obviously all out there to do the work assiduously hard to ensure Edo State All Stars host and win. I’m also very happy that in my tenure as Edo State All Stars President we are able to host this historic national event.

“So, I want to use this opportunity to call on our amiable Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who is our Captain to use his office to ensure that Edo State as the home of sports in Nigeria gives the best in terms of hosting.”

The likes of Austin Equavoen, Bright Omokaro, Baldwin Bazuaye, Momo Ayeigbeni, Tarila Okorowanta, Edema Fuludu, are all expected to participate in the championship.
