Members of the Ekhator family resident in Ogiso Street and adjoining areas of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, have cried out to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, N’Ogidigan, to come to their rescue in their long drawn battle with one Odion Obasohan Osayande and his cohorts who specialise in selling their family land.
According to Osasere Ekhator Ohonba, who spoke on behalf of the family, the land is covered by a survey plan registered on October 13th, 1975.
“The land is not only an ancestral ground but also served as our farmland. It is where the Odede Shrine worshipped by the Ekhator family on behalf of the Benin Palace is located.
“Nobody or group of persons have been given power of attorney to sell or lease any portion of the land.”
Osasere, an orphan, claimed that Odion is of Esan extraction in Edo Central Senatorial District and challenged him to prove his claim of ownership of the property with all the necessary documents.
According to Osasere, citing the recent petition allegedly forwarded against him to the anti-vice squad as an example, Obasohan and his cohorts have on several occasions attempted to assassinate him and also frame him up so that he can be put behind bars.
